St. Mary's Church, Lamberhurst

St. Mary’s Lamberhurst sits at the top of the village and can be seen from many different points in the surrounding countryside as an impressive landmark. The first buildings on the site were erected in Saxon times. Records show there was a church or chapel of some sort here in AD998, and that it was consecrated during that year. The building has been expanded, adapted and updated many times since then. There is an ancient Yew tree by the porch of the church that is estimated to be over 1500 years old, predating the church.

More details on the internal and external history of the church can be found here.

Today the church has an active congregation of all ages, offering traditional services, relaxed worship and regular gatherings for children and families.  There is a thriving choir with adult and junior members who sing during regular services and at special services and events.  The church is well integrated into village life, participating in the key social and fundraising events of the year and in the life of the school.

Everyone is welcome at St. Mary’s.  You are most welcome to turn up at one of our services and join in.
